Clear Whey vs Regular Whey: What Changes in the Glass?

Understand how clear whey and regular whey differ in texture, flavour, mixing style and label information.

Clear and regular whey products can both provide protein, but they are designed to make very different drinks. Regular whey is usually creamy and milkshake-like. Clear whey is normally mixed with water for a lighter, juice-style result.

Taste and texture

Regular whey suits flavours such as chocolate, vanilla, biscuit and coffee. Clear products tend to use citrus, berry or tea-style flavours. A clear drink may foam immediately after shaking; letting it stand briefly can help the foam settle. Always follow the directions on the pack.

Compare the nutrition panel, not the colour

Clear does not automatically mean more or less protein, sugar or energy. Check protein per 100 g and per serving, then compare the ingredient list. Some clear-protein products may use a different protein source or a blend, so the product name alone is not enough.

Questions to ask before buying

  • Do you prefer a creamy shake or a light drink?
  • Does the exact flavour list appeal to you?
  • What serving size does the maker specify?
  • Are milk or other allergens clearly identified?
  • Does the product page show values for the flavour you want?

Use our comparison page when you want to compare clear, whey, vegan and casein products in the same format.
